The ‘Prolific’ Cold Hardy Kiwi Can Survive Temperatures Down to -25º

Self-fertile and fast growing, the Prolific Kiwi Vine lets your grow tropical fruit from your backyard

Most people assume kiwis are a tropical fruit; something you buy at the store. The Prolific Hardy Kiwi flips that idea completely. This vigorous climbing vine produces clusters of smooth-skinned, grape-sized kiwis that are sweeter than anything from the grocery store, and it does it in climates where temperatures drop to -25°F.

What Makes the Prolific Hardy Kiwi Special

  • Low-maintenance once established; pest and disease resistant
  • Grape-sized, smooth-skinned fruit; eat them whole, no peeling needed
  • Self-fertile vine; no male pollinator required, though adding one boosts yields significantly
  • Cold hardy to -25°F; thrives in USDA Zones 4–8
  • Fast-growing vine reaching 20–25 ft., perfect for trellises, pergolas, fences, and arbors
  • Fruit ripens in fall with sweet, bright flavor richer than store-bought kiwi
  • Loaded with vitamin C, antioxidants, and dietary fiber

Fuzz-Free Kiwis You Eat Whole. Smooth-skinned, grape-sized kiwiberries with bright green flesh ; no peeling, no fuss. The flavor is sweet, aromatic, and noticeably richer than store-bought kiwi. Eaten at true home-grown ripeness, it's on another level.

Self-Fertile. Unlike most kiwi varieties, the 'Prolific' sets fruit on its own. That being said, adding a male Actinidia arguta within 100 feet can cause yields to jump noticeably, but a single vine still delivers a real harvest.

Cold Hardy to -25°F. Thrives in USDA Zones 4–8, shrugging off freezes that would destroy traditional kiwi vines. For northern gardeners who thought kiwi was off the table, this variety changes everything.

Nutritional Powerhouse. Hardy kiwis are packed with vitamin C plus antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin K. Grow your own and you're getting clean, chemical-free fruit straight off the vine.

How to Grow Prolific Kiwi

  • Plant in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil; space vines at least 10 feet apart and provide a strong trellis, pergola, or fence from day one
  • Self-fertile, so one vine produces fruit solo; add a male Actinidia arguta within 100 feet to noticeably boost yield
  • Water consistently in year one to establish roots; feed each spring with a balanced fertilizer and keep nitrogen light to prioritize fruit over foliage
  • Prune hard every winter while dormant; a single vine can put on 15 feet of growth in a season; consistent pruning keeps it productive and in bounds; fruit ripens September through October and is best eaten fresh or frozen

The 'Prolific' is one of the easier fruit vines to get established. It wants full sun to partial shade, well-drained soil, and a sturdy support structure in place before you plant. The one thing it genuinely requires is consistent pruning; this vine is a vigorous grower and will take over if you let it go. Stay on top of that and it rewards you with years of heavy harvests.

Lightweight oil that fits into a simple routine
I started using this oil as part of my regular skincare routine, mainly applying it to areas like my arms and face after showering. The texture feels light and spreads easily without leaving a heavy residue. I noticed it absorbs fairly quickly, which makes it convenient for daily use. It also has a mild scent that is not overwhelming. I like that it includes plant based ingredients, and it leaves my skin feeling soft after application.

    Amazing!!
Scent: Unscented, Size: 1.85 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Scent: Unscented, Size: 1.85 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Amazing product! I have a hormone imbalance and am prone to ingrown hairs, pustules, and very coarse hair on my chin, jawline, and neck. Since using this product, my ingrown hairs have decreased significantly. It works well for me as someone with PCOS. It has a very comfortable scent, but it is very light. I don’t notice the smell after I rub it in. It really works and should consistently use.

soft finish for upper lip and chin area
I pay close attention to fine facial hair, especially around my upper lip and chin area. Under strong lighting, those small hairs can appear more visible, so I have been looking for a gentle way to care for this area without anything harsh or overly complicated. At night, after cleansing my face and completing my basic skincare, I apply this oil as the final step. It feels like a light finishing layer over the skin. I use a very small amount, about one or two drops, warm it between my fingertips, then gently press it onto the upper lip and chin area. There is no stinging sensation, and the scent is very mild, which makes the application feel calm and comfortable. The texture feels lighter than expected. It spreads smoothly and settles quickly without leaving a heavy or greasy film. My skin type leans slightly combination, and in my case it sits well without making the T zone feel overly coated. Even when I follow with a light moisturizer, it layers without pilling and still feels breathable on the skin. After using it regularly every three days in the evening, the change I notice is mainly visual. The fine facial hair looks less pronounced under bright lighting, especially around the upper lip area. The skin surface also appears more even, and when I touch it, it feels smoother and less uneven in texture. These changes feel gradual rather than sudden, becoming more noticeable over time. From a makeup perspective in the morning, my base applies more evenly after cleansing. Foundation tends to sit more smoothly around the chin and upper lip area, without clinging to texture. During humid days, the skin can feel slightly more active in oil balance, but the overall finish still looks even and natural once makeup is applied.

Good for maintaining clean beard lines
I keep my beard trimmed, but I always have to clean up the edges along my neckline to keep it looking neat. Lately, I've been massaging a few drops of this natural oil into my neck on Tuesday mornings right after I finish shaving at the sink. It feels really soothing on freshly shaved skin, kind of acting like a light daily moisturizer. The bottle is only 1.85 ounces, but you only need a tiny dab to cover a small area so it should last a while. Over the last month, the stubble along my collar line definitely feels softer, and it takes an extra day or two before it starts looking messy again. If you trim your own facial hair and want to stretch out the time between touching up your neck or cheek lines, this is handy to keep by the mirror.

Gentle Oil for After Hair Removal Care
I started using this Cyperus oil after shaving because my skin often feels dry afterward. The texture is lightweight and spreads easily, so I only need a small amount on areas like legs and underarms. I usually apply it after showering, when my skin is clean and dry, then massage it in for a few minutes. The oil feels soothing and gives my skin a softer, more moisturized feeling without being too greasy. It absorbs better than I expected, especially when I use a thin layer. The scent is mild and does not bother me during daily use. For unwanted hair care, I know it is not something that shows a big change overnight, so I use it consistently after hair removal. It has been easy to add into my routine, and I like that it helps calm and moisturize my skin after shaving or waxing.
